The World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women is a sisterhood of officially recognized groups of Methodist women organized on a national basis and affirming its purpose, "To Know Christ and To Make Him Known." The geographical Area designated as North America Area includes the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean territories. Within the Area are Units of the United Methodist, African Methodist Episcopal, African Methodist Episcopal Zion, Christian Methodist Episcopal, and the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas.

The World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women (formerly World Federation of Methodist Women) is a fellowship of such officially recognized groups of Methodist, United and Uniting Church Women organized in Units from the respective participating nations to affirm its purpose “To Know Christ and To Make Him Known”.

National Units are combined within nine geographical Areas. The Area and Unit Officers co-ordinate programs and provide a global network for sharing information on program activities.

Chosen People: Called to Proclaim

The theme for the 13th World Assembly, 2016, of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women Assembly, is “CHOSEN PEOPLE: CALLED TO PROCLAIM” and is based on the Good News translation of 1 Peter 2: 9 & 10.

⁹ But you are the chosen race, the King’s priests, the holy nation, God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvellous light.¹⁰ At one time you were not God’s people, but now you are his people; at one time you did not know God’s mercy, but now you have received his mercy.

For the past 2 quinquenniums the Federation has worked very hard on the Millennium Development Goals. This has given us great opportunity to work out the social justice component of our Wesleyan tradition. With this new theme there is opportunity to bring in a balance of Wesleyan holiness and social concern.

We will remember who we are.

We will develop our relationship with Christ.

Then we will be equipped to share Christ with others as we proclaim his love through worship, social action, and relationships.

These were the 3 areas explored through workshops at the Assembly.

Region 4 -Midwest Area meeting in 2013

Region 4 Midwest USA includes Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Indiana.

Bambelela-Never Give Up – Christ Is Our Hope is the theme for the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women North America Area-Region 4 Midwest Seminar August 8-9-10, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana. We joined for collaboration, worship, Bible study, and fellowship with old and new friends. Everyone participated in workshops involving two of the Millennium Development Goals – 1.Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2. Promote gender equality and empower women.

North American Region Meeting in 2012

The meeting was held in Northbrooke, IL November 1-4 and was attended by 3 MN Conference United Methodist Women - Sandy Meyer, Jan Dehmlow, and Julie Adams.

World Federation Assembly in 2011

Every five years, the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women holds an Assembly. This is a world-wide gathering of United Methodist Women, Methodist Women around the world and representatives of other denominations that trace their root to John Wesley.

Previous Assemblies have been held in Brazil, Great Britain, Korea and next in Johannesberg, South Africa, August 10-16, 2011. This twelfth World Assembly will convene at the Indaba Hotel and Conference Center with the theme of "Bambalela (Never Give Up), Christ is our Hope."

Information about registering for the Assembly can be found on the website; www.wfmucw.org The registration fee appears to include meals, attendance at the conference, and housing. Airfare is extra.

Mary Gates attended one World Federation Assembly as a Women's Division Director, the others she has attended at her own expense. Bible study, the fellowship of the other participants, visits to mission sites and meeting with the local people are high lights of Assemblies.
